Abstract
This study aims to explore the identity formation and learning dynamics of adults in vocational education at the Community Learning Center (PKBM). The method used in this study is qualitative through a case study approach. A total of 12 students from the life skills program in the nursing assistant and construction worker program at a PKBM in Padang City were involved in this study. This study identifies three main themes in the life skills program developed at PKBM, namely: vocational skills development, vocational identity formation, and the gap between school and the world of work. Nursing assistant students rated their education as having provided them with adequate knowledge and skills, while construction worker students felt the need for additional training for more complex skills. Vocational identity formation occurs through peripheral participation in school and develops into full membership in the vocational community through internship experiences. The gap between school and the world of work requires students to adapt to these differences. The conclusions of this study provide new insights into adult vocational education in Indonesia and its implications for the development of vocational education policies that are more responsive to the needs of students and the industry.
